Tether: IRC that stays connected
Tether is IRC in your browser. It is a hosted web client and an IRCv3 bouncer: it stays connected to your networks and channels while your browser is closed, and shows you what you missed when you come back. It is one of Zappocity's products, so you sign in to it with your Zappocity account.
Open it from Tether on the Zappocity homepage, or go to its own address.
Signing in and out
Tether has no password of its own. Sign in sends you to Zappocity to sign in (with two-step sign-in if you use it), then straight back. Signing out of Zappocity, from Tether or anywhere else, signs you out of Tether too. So does changing your password or signing out everywhere else from your account page. See One sign-in for everything.
Tether learns your name, your email address, and the organizations you belong to with your role in each. It uses them to decide which plan you have. It learns nothing else about your account.
Plans
| Plan | Price | Who has it |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Everyone signed in, with nothing to buy |
| Pro | $5 a month, or $50 a year | Everyone in an organization that subscribes to it |
Tether's own pages say what each plan includes. A person in several organizations gets the best plan among them.
Buying Pro for your organization
Plans are bought for an organization, and everyone in it gets the plan. Only the organization's owners and billing members can buy or change one.
- Choose Upgrade in Tether, or open your account page from a link Tether gives you.
- Pick the plan, monthly or yearly billing, and the organization it is for.
- Choose Subscribe.
A paid plan needs a payment method saved for the organization first. If it has none, the page shows the organization's billing so you can add one. The subscription starts at once. It is invoiced to the organization within the hour, then every month or year.
Each organization can have one Tether subscription. To change it, use its Change button under Your organizations on your account page. A dearer plan is billed at once for the rest of the period you have paid for. A cheaper one, or a different billing period, applies from the next renewal.
Billing
Invoices, the payment method and automatic payment are under Your organizations on your account page, below each organization. Tether's Manage billing link opens that place directly. See Billing and tax.
